6th MARCH 2018

Ahead of the Women in Construction Summit in March, we caught up with Conference Producer, Jordan Graham about the event:

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved with Women in Construction Summit?

As the conference producer for the Women in Construction Summit, it is crucial to develop a real understanding of gender diversity and inclusion in the industry.

In my own experience, I was never introduced to the industry as a potential career from secondary to university career advice centres. The perception of the industry negates women from construction, so it was unpleasant but unfortunately not surprising to see that women only make up 1% of on-site workers (The Smith Institute, 2016).

It is exciting to continue to gain a deeper understanding of the barriers women face and how we can break them down to make the industry more inclusive for all. The confirmed speakers are inspirational, challenging current stereotypes and paving the way for the future generation

2. What is Women in Construction Summit?

The Women in Construction Summit is a platform for business professionals to connect, be inspired and most importantly, work towards creating an industry we all benefit from.

We welcome 400 delegates for a day of insight, discussion and networking. The summit will provide a combination of keynote presentations, lively panels and interactive workshops. The agenda is engineered to deal with the most important issues facing women working the construction industry and provide solutions on how we can move forward.

3. Who is it for?

The Summit is for the construction industry ecosystem and those who are passionate to increase diversity and inclusion in the industry.

The event is not solely for women, as we know we need everyone to be a part of the conversation if we want to create real life solutions. We invite professionals from engineering, commercial, and many other backgrounds in the construction industry.

4. What are you most looking forward to at the summit?

I am really looking forward to host the conference for an energised and empowering community pushing for the greater advancement of gender diversity and inclusion. It will be exciting to meet the speakers and hear best practice from those succeeding in the industry. I am personally looking forward to welcoming our delegates in the greater community and sparking the conversation of how we can all push and achieve greater diversity.

5. Three words that best sum up Women in Construction Summit?

Inspirational, empowering and transformative!
