6th MARCH 2018

Ahead of the Women in Construction Summit in March, we caught up with Conference Producer, Jordan Graham about the event:

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got involved with Women in Construction Summit?

I am producing Women in Construction Summit, because I passionately believe everyone should have equal opportunities and want to have a positive impact on the industry.

To create an event that people really value and enjoy, it is crucial for me to have a real understanding of the state of gender diversity and inclusion in construction.

Starting with my own experience, I wasn’t introduced to the industry as a potential career at secondary school nor university career advice centres. The industry’s perception excludes women - so it was unpleasant, but unfortunately not surprising, to see that women only make up 1% of on-site workers (The Smith Institute, 2016).

Continually deepening my understanding of the barriers women face and working to break them down excites me. The speakers we have confirmed at the Summit are inspirational, challenging current stereotypes and paving the way for future generations.

2. What is Women in Construction Summit?

The Women in Construction Summit is a platform for business professionals to connect, learn, be inspired and most importantly, work towards creating an industry we all benefit from.

We will welcome 500 delegates for a day of insight, discussion and networking. The Summit will provide a combination of keynote presentations, lively panels and interactive workshops. The agenda is engineered to deal with the most important issues facing women working in construction and how women are key to us all tackling the biggest challenges facing the industry.

3. Who is it for?

The Summit is for anyone in construction passionate about improving diversity and inclusion, boosting their career, understanding what the challenges facing the industry are, and how to tackle them.

The event is not solely for women, as we know everyone needs to be part of the conversation if we want to create real life solutions. We invite professionals from engineering, commercial, and many other backgrounds in the construction industry.

4. What are you most looking forward to at the summit?

There’s nothing I love more than meeting our vibrant communities and seeing them enjoy and be empowered by the content I’ve worked hard to create!

5. Three words that best sum up Women in Construction Summit?

Inspirational, empowering and transformative!
