Thursday 4 August
On the eve of the Rio 2016 Olympic opening ceremony, Golden Bricks hosted an Olympic Carnival for Barratt employees and our friends in the industry. A total of 250 guests were wined, dined and entertained during a fulfilled evening at London’s most central venue, 8 Northumberland Avenue.
Upon entry, the guests were met with a drinks reception and canapes in the lower part of 8 Northumberland, before being called to dinner service and being entertained by our carnival dancers and band ‘Taste of Brasil’ who were excellent. After a brief introduction from the graduate organisers, the host for the evening, James Hasler, took the reins and commenced dinner service, provided by Payal Events. After the starters, the first guest speaker, the one and only Eddie the Eagle, took to the stage to give his inspiring story.
During the mains, The Prince's Trust Young Ambassador Francesca gave her story about her challenging past and how the Prince’s Trust has helped her become the successful woman she is today. This was then followed by comedy from Aaron James and rapidly followed by our live auction to raise money for the charity, with some extremely exciting items. Finally, the DJ came on to see out what had been a truly brilliant evening.
FRIDAY 15 & 29 JULY
Photos of both days are below
A total of 30 teams took part across both Barratt Championship tournaments at Stoke FC and Southampton FC, contributing to two fantastic days.
Following on from the ideas of previous graduate cohorts, the Barratt Championship was a combination of a daytime five-a-side tournament followed by a sportsman’s dinner in the evening held at a premier league football stadium (Bet365 Stadium & St Marys).
Participation at both football tournaments was highly engaging with the right level of friendly competition between both internal divisions and external subcontractors whilst the evening event provided Prince’s Trust Ambassadors with the opportunity to highlight the importance of The Prince’s Trust in their own lives. Both Ambassadors spoke with confidence and passion about the Trust and gave a great insight into the work they do as a charity.
Entertainment was provided in the evening at Southampton by ex-professional footballer, and now ambassador for Chelsea Football Club, Ron ‘Chopper’ Harris who gave an entertaining account of his playing days. Stoke City played host to comedian/impressionist Darren Farley, known best for his work on television shows such as Soccer AM. Both proved a huge success on the night.
Overall the event provided a great networking experience for Barratt Developments and our external colleagues, across the country in an informal capacity over football, food and drink.
