Built by Both - our first year
2016 saw our first three events, with a total of 225 men and women joining us in celebrating the future for gender parity in all roles across the built environment sectors. Launched in July, we introduced the initiative to the industry atop the beautiful roof terrace of CBRE at St. Paul's. This was followed by our autumn event at the offices of Winckworth Sherwood overlooking City Hall and the Thames. Finally, our winter celebration was held at the historic building at St Katharine Docks, hosted by Aedas and introduced by CEO Michael Clark, with furniture provided by Parcour.
Guest speakers included:
Lorna Walker - Director, Capital Markers - CBRE & CBRE Women's Network
Morley von Sternberg - Architectural and portrait photographer & project with NAWIC
Angela Brady OBE PPRIBA - Director - Brady Mallalieu Architects
Kath Moore - Managing Director - Women into Construction
Stewart Murray - Assistant Director - GLA
Jean Venables CBE - Civil Engineer, First Female President of the ICE 2008 - 2009
Danna Walker - Founder and Director of Built by Us & FLUID Diversity Mentoring
- Chris, Samantha & Georgie - Young ambassadors of The Prince's Trust
We heard inspirational stories from all speakers, who emphasised the endless opportunities for women and men, of any background, and any age, who are looking to embark on careers within the built environment.
Thank you to all those who came and showed a united ambition to make change in our industry!
